Route

Lubango to Namibe (Mocamedes)

Short, spectacular and the reason many people come south at all. This is a drive you plan the day around, not a transfer you rush.

What the journey is like

The road descends the escarpment through the Serra da Leba pass, the hairpin road that appears on every Angolan postcard. Stop at the viewpoint.

The pass is steep with tight bends and can be foggy. Drive it in daylight and in dry conditions if you can.

The driving time is a band calculated at 50 to 70 km/h on an indicative distance of 190 km. It does not include stops, fuel, roadworks or delays leaving Luanda, so treat the upper end as the realistic figure on a first trip.
