Five ways to bring this number down
    1. Leave Luanda quickly. One or two nights in the capital, then head out: the same hotel standard costs far less in Benguela, Lobito or Lubango.
    2. Eat where locals eat. A plate of funge with fish at a neighbourhood eatery costs a fraction of a hotel restaurant.
    3. Travel in May or October. Shoulder season: dry weather, fewer crowds and better fares than July, August and December.
    4. Share transport. Group up with other travellers for 4x4 hires to Kalandula or Iona.
    5. Carry cash and get an eSIM. ATM fees and hotel Wi-Fi add up; card acceptance outside Luanda is limited.
